MARC JACOBS A/W 2013

Colour is often explored and conceptualised in fashion, so it came as no surprise that Marc Jacobs showed his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection twice - once in colour and once without. The designer's twist on the traditional show format was intriguing, challenging the audience to first appreciate the varieties of texture on show before being allowed to see colour. The colour palette, once revealed, was subdued in its nature, focussing mainly around the various shades of grey and cool, muted blues. Rich burgundies and dark greens were also used later on, lending an air of decadence to the evening looks. The looks were surprising in their simplicity - a selection of form-fitting fishnet gowns were worn over nude slips, creating a look that was deceptively simple but extremely effective.
